This week I was able to learn about intertidal habitats. When talking about intertidal, “inter” means between, and tidal means between the tides. In the intertidal zones, it's where the area where the land meets the sea. Organisms adapted to living in those areas are unique because part of their lives is being exposed to air and exposed to water. Depending on where the organism is in the intertidal zone it can affect them. For example, when there is exposure at low tide, it mainly affects organisms in the upper intertidal. In the upper intertidal, the area is hardly ever submerged, and it is kept wet from wave splashes. When organisms do not have water covering them, it stresses them out because they rely on the water covering them for oxygen, the stabilization of temperature, food, etc. Also, they rely on water to cover them because of dessication which dries the organisms.
