Nearshore habitats and pirates!

This week we learned about intertidal zones, and estuaries. I think these subjects are interesting because of the adaptation required to live in these areas. Organisms must be able to handle the fresh and salt water and the changes in salinity. I thought is was really interesting hearing about people building settlements on top of hills to escape pirates. Then being down on the shore itself made me think about what it would have been like to live here, to really rely on the sea before modern technology. I think it would have been beautiful but also very tough to have to survive.
